Kelp & Wood Pleco Pops

Take a look at the ingredients in your pleco wafers. We encourage you to take a look at ours, too.

Kats Pleco Pops starts with real greens - Alfalfa leads the pack, followed by kelp, moringa, spirulina, natural oak wood, and other carefully selected ingredients inspired by the diets of grazing fish.

You'll still find wheat in our recipe, and that's intentional. A wafer needs a (natural!) binder to hold together underwater, and starch does that job exceptionally well. We use only what's needed to create a firm, durable wafer while keeping the focus on the ingredients that matter most.

Every batch is handmade in Brooklyn, New York. During development, we purchased commercial extrusion equipment like many large fish food manufacturers use. After working with it, we realized those machines often force you to formulate foods around the manufacturing process rather than around the ingredients. So we went a different direction.

Instead of extrusion, we hand-fill each batch into molds and slowly dehydrate it at low temperatures. The wafers aren't perfectly uniform, and that's exactly how we like it. You'll notice a rougher texture designed to encourage natural grazing behavior, along with wafers in different sizes because fish aren't equally hungry every day.

We know there are cheaper foods on the market. We know there are prettier wafers on the market. Our goal wasn't to make the most "this is mass produced in a giant factory" wafer. Our goal was to make a food we'd be proud to feed our own fish every day, and Pleco Pops do that.

If a food is made for herbivores, we believe the greens should come first.
